Who is Kawira Mwangaza?

Kawira Mwangaza is the Governor of Meru County, a position she has acquired after beating both Kiraitu Muruingi and Mithika Linturi in the 2022 General Elections. Kawira was the former Women Representative of Meru County.

She is also the CEO of Mwangaza Distributors, an energy solutions company that she started. It is from this company that she got her name “Mwangaza”, which means “light” in Swahili.

Kawira also worked for Baite TV, a TV station that her husband Mugera Baichu, a musician, has stakes in.

Mwangaza garnered 209,148 votes in the 2022 General elections. She was followed by Mithika Linturi, the former county Senator who got 183,859 votes on a UDA ticket, and Kiraitu Muriungi, the incumbent governor, who got 110,814 votes.
